I got a bargain on my laptop's Vista home premium version (since I bought the laptop a couple of months before Vista was released, they gave me a cheaper upgrade), and since I got that, I havn't really gone back to Windows XP on it. Like Triax said, there's some nice features that really help the workflow, which you're going to miss when you switch back to XP for whatever reason.

For the couple of things that I couldn't do on Vista, I used VirtualPC to make a virtual Win2K machine, which works great.

Anyhow, I have noticed that if you have a PC which can propperly handle Vista, the difference in performance between XP and Vista become minimal. (Can play most games on the same settings, and some even on better settings in Vista.)

Some may dislike UAC (which causes the pop-ups for confirmation on administrative tasks), but I think it gives a needed increase in security for those (like me) who always run their computer using an administrator account. Especially since I don't run a virus scanner on my computer other than Windows Defender (which wasn't in XP, so I didn't run anything there).

I just remembered something i did forget to mention. Drivers.

If i look at my index score i can have either, 3.5 or 4.5. The difference depends on what GFX driver im running. The scores seem to rely quite heavily on driver support. Latest nvidia drivers (6800 card) caused a big decrease.

Havnt noticed any other problems with this though, other than sleep mode has never worked for me, and if i try i need a reboot after otherwise games get massive artefacts all over the place.

We should make a scoring post for Vista.

nah don't do that. i'll get score envy. I only have a 2.4 mainly because I have a sucky video card. I went with a cheap dual montior card for two screens for business, not gaming.

I use my xbox for most of my gaming.

I have 5.0. Processor being the lowest component... Strange how it calculates gaming number (3D speed), as in the testing phase, the card doesn't change itself to 3D speeds...

What a good deal. I am also moving ti Vista because Vista has a very good interface plus it also user friendly.

DVD-Audio playback still doesn't work on Vista.

I've played some DVDs, so that isn't the issue I guess. Never had any specific DVD-Audio discs though, but I'm sure there are programs that can in fact play them that do run on Vista.
