Seagate: Well, I've always found them cheap and have never had a problem with them. I had problems with some Maxtors before.
Another reason, well as I said in the other poll, IBM's suck.

I agree with Donk, I rarely have a problem with a Seagate drive....

WD seems to currently have the lowest failure rates, but that can always change on a year to year baises.

I have had nothing but good luck with older Seagates, infact i still have a Seagate 250Meg from the mid 90's kicking around somewhere. Works perfectly. It was used as a swap partion on a Linux machine that had a full NNTP feed, for about 2 years[I used to own an ISP in the early Dial-Up days], then went into my personal machine and got heavy usage until about 1 year ago. Not a single problem with it to this day, I would still be using it if it wasn't so small/slow.

Oh, when I say old, I mean before 1990. Even that isn't too long ago. The first computer I learned to program was a TI 99/4A back around 1977. I didn't get my own computer at home until around 1981, a Radio Shack Color Computer with a whopping 16 KB of RAM and a ~1 MHz CPU! (Yes, that's kilobyes and megahertz.) An audio cassette tape drive was too expensive at the time so I "saved" my Basic programs by typing them on a manual typewriter. Loading a program meant typing the source code in--every time. Needless to say, once you got a program going, you didn't shutdown on a whim.
